Before Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski took the Sochi Olympics by storm (seriously, their friendship and commentary was one of the highlights), Johnny was involved in a legal dust-up with his husband, Victor Voronov. Victor filed a police report claiming that Weir had bitten him in an act of domestic violence. But, by the time Weir and Voronov appeared in court in early March, they had worked out their differences and Victor asked the court to dismiss the charges. But now… their marriage is over. They got married in 2011 and Weir announced yesterday that they had split up:

Johnny Weir has split from husband Victor Voronov.

“It is with great sadness that I announce that my husband and I are no longer together,” the former Olympic figure skater announced via Twitter Wednesday. “My heart hurts, and I wish him well.”

He married his lawyer beau in a New York civil ceremony in 2011, calling their wedding “the greatest moment in my life.”

But earlier this month, Radar Online reported the couple appeared in a New Jersey court as the Olympian faced charges of biting Voronov during a domestic dispute. A judge dismissed the case at their request March 5.

Known for his crazy costumes and routines, Weir returned to the Olympics this winter as a commentator. But in 2012, he still had hoped to compete in Sochi – with Voronov’s support.

“We’re very proud of this decision and it won’t affect anything,” Weir, 29, said at the time. “I’ll still wash boxers and cook dinner and clean the house and do everything I’m supposed to do as a happy husband.”

Now I’m really wondering about that domestic violence claim. And while I adore Johnny, I think he’s all about the drama and I wonder if domestic, married life did not agree with him in the end. I also wonder… will Johnny and Victor have to split assets? Does New York recognize communal assets in same-sex partnerships?

It is with great sadness that I announce that my husband and I are no longer together. My heart hurts, and I wish him well.

No matter what, I am a cheerleader of love and partnership and creation. I am sad yet I am thankful that I was loved and that I could love.
