She was brought up in Miami, Florida by a single mother.

Kat was just 8 years old when she started rapping and by the age of 15, she was writing her own music.

She had worked as a waitress during her late teens in order to save money and later moved to New York City at the age of 18.

It was Vested in Culture VP of A&R Amanda Berkowitz who discovered her after she released a self-funded extended play and music video. She had signed with them in 2012.

She released her debut studio album titled My Garden on January 13, 2015. The album went on to peak at #54 on the Billboard 200 charts.

The earliest post that Kat uploaded to her Instagram account was on July 30, 2021. It was a short video of her that was taken in Los Angeles, California.
