MAFS 2020: Vanessa Romito reveals why she quit Married At First Sight
Married At First Sight’s Vanessa Romito has revealed the real reason she quit the reality show.
Vanessa opened up about the incident during a radio interview on Hit FM’s Get Up With Krysti & Bodge this morning and revealed that she was “scared” of her “husband” Chris Nicholls who she claimed was “quite abusive to me”.
It comes after last night’s episode in which Vanessa and Chris decided to quit the experiment after an explosive argument during a lunch with their family and friends.
Just like Poppy and Luke who quit the show last week, Chris and Vanessa were allowed to leave MAFS without having to wait for a commitment ceremony.

The same luxury wasn’t afforded to other contestants who were made to remain on the show despite writing “leave” during the most recent commitment ceremony because their TV husband or wife wrote “stay”.
“The real reason I left obviously is not going to be aired,” Vanessa said on radio this morning. “I completely understand why not.
“The producers came up to me after they heard what happened and I said to them, ‘I want to leave. There’s nothing that can keep me here. I need to go home for me.’ They went back, they thought about it and they came back and said, ‘We booked you a ticket.’”
Vanessa hinted at what happened between her and Chris when she was asked on radio if they had been intimate during their time on the reality show.
“That’s a topic I don’t really want to touch on,” Vanessa said.
“He was like, ‘If you tell anyone what’s actually happening I’ll make you look crazy,’ and I was terrified of that because it’s very easy to make a female look crazy.”
When asked by the radio hosts what Chris was referring to when he allegedly said “what’s actually happening”, Vanessa replied: “The topic that I refuse to talk about, if we did or didn’t have sex.”

Vanessa claimed in the radio interview that she was “gaslighted” by Chris on the show but added that she didn’t tell MAFS producers about what she was going through at the time.
“I tend to suffer in silence, so I didn’t tell anyone anything until it got to the absolute boiling point for me,” she said.
“It all came to a crumble the night of the lunch (which aired last night). Chris went out with his family and partied and stuff and he came home and was quite abusive to me, to the point where I hid in the bathroom from him. That’s how dramatic that night was for me.”
Vanessa went on to claim that “Chris and his words absolutely destroyed me” on MAFS, and she detailed an incident that occurred on the morning of a publicity shoot.
“He just said to me, ‘Vanessa, look at yourself, no one is going to want you after this experiment.’ I was like, ‘Oh my god,’” Vanessa claimed.
In response to Vanessa’s claims, Chris told news.com.au: “In relation to some of the things that Vanessa’s coming out and she’s saying about the whole gaslighting thing, if anything, it is definitely the other way around.
“There’s gonna be a few things that come out that are gonna hold her accountable for, things that she said. Obviously I’m just waiting for the right time.
“In all honesty, best of luck to her. I hope she does find love. It just didn’t work between me and her,” Chris said.
During her radio interview this morning, Vanessa praised Channel 9 and Endemol Shine for the support they offered her during and after the show.
“They’ve been extremely good to me, they’ve been reaching out to me almost daily,” she said on Hit FM. “They’ve also set me up with some therapy as well … I’ve been going weekly.”
Last night fellow MAFS contestant David Cannon appeared on news.com.au’s Not Here To Make Friends podcast and he commented about Vanessa’s experience on the show.
“Vanessa’s definitely one person who struggled,” David said. “There’s a lot that went on behind the scenes there.”
Married At First Sight continues tonight at 7.30pm on Channel 9
