Reiner will not rejoin Girona from Real Madrid amid Oriol Romeus expected departure
Reinier will not go to Girona, after having reached an agreement in principle between the parties, with the approval of Real Madrid, for another season on loan.
The Athletic previously reported that the 21-year-old was set to rejoin Girona next season.
However, Girona have now informed the Brazilian that they need his place as a non-EU player to reinforce their midfield in view of Oriol Romeu’s expected departure to Barcelona.

Follow the Women’s World Cup on The Athletic…Reinier signed for Real Madrid in 2020 from Flamengo but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Spanish club despite making several appearances for Castilla in the second tier.

The midfielder spent two seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund , making 39 appearances in total and scoring one goal and providing one assist, before joining Girona for 2022-23.
Last season the versatile forward made 18 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Barcelona have been linked with Romeu for the majority of the summer, and after being priced out of moves for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, Xavi that the club must go for a more affordable player with the 31-year-old midfielder, whose release clause is around €4million (£3.4m; $4.4m) according to multiple sources, being seen as his next best option.
